My GPS has arrived

Promptly at 10:00 am this morning my cool little GPS device for my camera hit the doorstep. I bought the little buggar from Dawn Technology Limited. Like a kid on Christmas morning I ripped into the package to find my new geek toy. Instructions be dammed, I attached it to the hotshoe and 10 pin connector on my Nikon D200 and after a bit of blinking BAM it worked.

What I find amazing about this thing is that it is about the size of a box of matches, far smaller than the Garmin hand held (see photo on right) I used to use with a mile of cabling. No slight to Garmin as I was using the GPS in rather unusual ways. Now not to be satisfied with merely seeing a few blinking lights, I ran outside to get a snap to ensure that I was getting long/lat data in the format I need to drive Google Maps within my Picasa Photo Gallery. Not the best photo nor the best subject but I got a snap of my neighbors garbage can in all its' glory. A quick upload to Aperture for a few keywords and a caption and then to my photo album via a handy Aperture-to-Picasa plug-in from Ubermind.

Works great and I am a happy camper. More to come as I get time to play.
